Student Visa Requirements for New Zealand 

If you’re an Indian student aspiring to study in New Zealand, you’ll need to secure a student visa as a prerequisite. The type of visa required depends on your intended course of study and duration of stay.

Maintaining Fee-Paying student status during your studies is crucial, as it aligns with the purpose of your visit to New Zealand.

Documentation Required:

1. Offer from New Zealand universities. For pathway courses, include a Pathway student visa cover letter approved by the Pathway education provider.
2. Evidence of tuition fee payment.
3. Proof of income and its source.
4. Photocopy of recent passport’s identity pages.
5. Character certificate validated by the police.
6. Health certificate indicating good health.
7. Additional documents may include:
   • Qualification certificates and academic transcripts.
   • Employment history proof.
   • Evidence of sufficient funds to support yourself.
   • Information about your financial guarantor (identity and relationship).
   • English language proficiency test scores (e.g., IELTS).
   • Aadhar or Pan card.

Financial Requirements:

Show evidence of NZ$20,000 for a full year of study or NZ$1,250 per month. This may include:

• Scholarship program.
• Bank statements.
• Financial undertaking by a sponsor for accommodation and living costs.
• Evidence of return journey after completing the course (optional).
• Police certificate if studying for over 24 months and aged 17 or above.
• X-ray certificate if staying for more than six months or from a country with high tuberculosis incidence.
• Full medical examination.

Application Process:

Apply online through the New Zealand Immigration website up to 120 days before the program’s start date. The application date is when the application fee is paid.

New Zealand Student Visa Fee (for Indian applicants):

• Online Application: $230 application cost, $24 receiving centre fee.
• Paper Application: $330 application cost, $17 receiving centre fee.

English Language Requirements:

Provide evidence of English proficiency by passing a secure English language test to demonstrate communication and correspondence skills.
