When applying for a China student visa, you’ll need to prepare the following documents:
Receive Letter of Acceptance:
Apply and get accepted to a Chinese university that admits foreign students. Ensure you have received the acceptance letter before proceeding further.
Obtain JW201 or JW202 Form:
Once accepted, the university will provide you with either the JW201 or JW202 form along with the acceptance letter. The JW201 is for scholarship applicants, while the JW202 is for self-funded students.
Prepare Required Documents:
Gather all necessary documents listed under “Requirements for a China Student Visa.”
Submit Application:
Apply for the student visa at a Chinese Visa Application Service Center, Chinese Embassy, or Consulate in your country. Some locations may require an interview. Check the requirements and procedures specific to your country.
Pay Application Fee:
Pay the visa application fee, which varies based on nationality and may have additional charges for expedited processing. Fees typically range from ¥238 to ¥1,006.
Await Processing:
Expect a processing time of around four working days. Expedited processing is available for an extra fee if required.
Receive Visa and Travel:
Once your visa is approved, collect it and make preparations to travel to China.
Undergo Medical Checkup (for X1 Visa Applicants):
If applying for an X1 visa, undergo a medical checkup. This step may be waived if you’ve already completed a medical check in another country with results translated into Chinese.
Apply for Temporary Residence Permit:
Upon arrival in China, within 30 days, visit the Public Security Bureau (PSB) Exit and Entry Administration Office to apply for a temporary residence permit. This permit is valid for up to five years.
Following these steps will ensure a smooth application process for obtaining a student visa to study in China.
