Types of Netherlands Student Visas:
- Netherlands Short-Stay Student Visa: Issued for courses/training lasting less than three months.
- Netherlands Student Visa for Secondary and Vocational Courses: Usually granted to students from Suriname, Indonesia, or South Africa with family in the Netherlands who speak Dutch.
- Netherlands Long-Stay Student Visa: Also known as a student residence permit, allowing students to complete studies in the Netherlands for up to five years.
Application Process:
- Application made by the educational institution.
- Requires a temporary Dutch residence permit, possibly an MVV (long-stay visa).
- Sponsor applies for permits through Entry and Residence Procedure (TEV) to the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).

Please note: Applications must be submitted in person, including for babies and children. All documents should be provided in Dutch, English, French, or Spanish unless stated otherwise.
- Application 1.1 Completed and signed Schengen visa application form.
- Travel Documents 2.1 Valid passport or travel document. 2.2 Copy of all pages of the passport.
- Evidence of Legal Residence 3.1 Proof of legal residence in the country of application, e.g., passport, visa, or residence permit. Residence permit should be valid for at least 3 months after departure from the Schengen area.
- Photo 4.1 Passport photo meeting Dutch passport requirements.
- Proof of Travel 5.1 Flight reservation of return or round ticket. Proof of intra-Schengen travel if visiting multiple Schengen States. 5.2 Proof of lodging: Hotel reservations, rental accommodation, or proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation from the host.
- Enrollment Documentation 6.1 Certificate of admission or registration at an educational establishment. 6.2 Student cards or certificates from the enrolled establishment.
- Proof of Financial Means 7.1 Original bank statement from the last three months. 7.2 Income tax return acknowledgment for the last two years, along with employment-related documents or business registration if applicable. 7.3 Proof of sponsorship for sponsored applicants, or pension statements for retirees.
- Health Insurance 8.1 Health insurance policy valid throughout the Schengen area, covering at least €30,000 of medical costs.
- Visa 9.1 Valid visa, residence permit, or passport for entry to the final destination after visiting the Schengen area.
- Payment 10.1 Payment of the visa fee.
Please ensure all documents are provided in their original form and one copy. Documents will not be returned except for the travel document.
Work Opportunities with Dutch Student Visa:
- Allowed to work up to 16 hours/week, full-time during June-August (seasonal labor).
- Work permit required, except for internships as part of the course.
- Must have a citizen service number (Burger Service Number) to be paid; obtained after registration at the local municipality.
- Income tax filing and payment required for all residents, including students, even for student fellowship/scholarship income.
